Waxing Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. I once had my eyebrows waxed and the skin came off. Why did this happen?

A. Sometimes skin care products that contain alpha hydroxyl acids of any kind such as, salicylic acid and glycolic acid can cause the skin to lift while waxing. Prescription medications such as antibiotics, Accutane, or topical ointments such as Retin-A or Renova can also cause the skin to thin and lift while being waxed. Other products that may cause this are Strivectin, Proactiv, Avita and Avage. Aggressive exfoliation of the skin, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels, can be a problem too. It’s also possible that your technician was inexperienced or used an inferior wax that is not gentle. Our waxing experts use only the highest quality hypoallergenic wax, and always ask about any topical creams or prescriptions you are using. Keep in mind that it’s difficult to predict how skin will react, no matter how many precautions are taken.

Q. Will my skin stay red for a long time?

A. For those who experience redness, this reaction will only last between 20-30 minutes. It’s important to avoid chlorinated water and tanning for at least 24 hours. Avoid perfumes, scrubs, or other irritants the day of the waxing service. Brides or anyone attending a special occasion should wax a month before the special day to see how the skin reacts.

Q. How long should my hair be to get waxed?

A. Hair should be at least ” long for best results. We recommend a minimum of two weeks of growth. After the first wax, as long as you do not shave between services, you’ll find the second wax to be a lot more comfortable.

Q. What can I do before my waxing service to be the most comfortable?

A. Caffeine and alcohol can stimulate your system, increasing redness and making you more sensitive after waxing, so try to avoid them the day of. Pregnancy also increases sensitivity. We often recommend taking ibuprofen at least 20 minutes before your waxing service, as long as this does not contradict what your doctor has told you. If you are a female client, schedule your waxing service the first two weeks after your cycle. Your sensitivity level is a lot less during this time.
